About us

The Australian Human Rights Commission plays a unique role in protecting and promoting human rights in Australia. As Australia’s National Human Rights Institution, our work includes investigating human rights complaints, doing research, advocating for law and policy reform, and promoting rights through education and training.

Privacy collection notice

The Australian Human Rights Commission (Commission) collects and handles personal information in accordance with the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) and our Privacy Policy.

To subscribe to our mailing list, we require you to provide us with your email address. You may also provide us with your name. We will use this information to contact you with Commission updates, including in relation to the areas of interest you select, such as reports, guidelines and resources we have prepared, campaign events, training, news and career opportunities.

We use MailChimp for email subscriptions. MailChimp stores data overseas, including in the United States. By subscribing for our services, you consent to your information being stored overseas and used by MailChimp as set out in MailChimp’s privacy statement and understand that, by consenting to this, the requirements of APP 8.1 do not apply. This means that MailChimp will not be accountable, and you will not be able to seek redress, under the Privacy Act.

We will not otherwise use or disclose your personal information without your consent, unless we are authorised or required to do so by law.

Our Privacy Policy sets out how you can access or seek correction of your personal information, make a complaint about how we have handled your information and how we will deal with your complaint.
