From: Melinda Clarkson Sent: Monday, 7 December 2009 6:04 PM To: disabdis Subject: Captioned movies To Whom It May Concern, I wish to express my rights of equal access in terms of captioning at movies. I live 40 minutes away from the nearest captioned movie centre, because my local movies don't broadcast captioned movies. This is discrimating as I am Deaf myself and should I have to travel 40 minutes, at another expense of petrol costs plus movie tickets so forth, compared to those who live locally and don't have to pay an extra expense of petrol costs. Please consider the rights of Deaf people who should have a fair equal status to those hearing people, so they can enjoy going out and meet new people, instead of being stuck at their homes just for the DVD's sake. We should have a right to decide whether to stay home or go out, as much as others. Please consider the rights of Deaf people to have captioned movies across Australia, locally and everywhere! 3 times a week is not enough and not justifiable to those who are working, single parents, pensioners - especially those senior citizens who are robbed off the normally Tuesdays where prices are reduced, and yet captioned are only broadcast on Wednesday??? Thank you, Regards, Melinda Clarkson
