From: Ricki Coughlan Sent: Friday, 27 November 2009 1:08 PM To: disabdis Subject: Moves by cinemas for exemption from disability discrimination act I am extremely alarmed at moves by major cinema chains to gain exemption from the Disability Discrimination Act for 2 1/2 years. The move to exempt them from displaying captioning effectively robs people with hearing impairment from access to movies which everyone else in the community can enjoy. This a backward step which puts profit above people. I hope you will treat the request of those cinemas with the contempt it deserves. I'm sure they wouldn't try this on with wheelchair access.
