From: Adam D'Arcy Sent: Friday, 4 December 2009 5:06 PM To: disabdis Subject: Re Movie theatre exemption from the Disability Dsicrimination Act To Whom It May Concern I am writing to express my concern regarging the application by Village Roadshow, Greater Union, Hoyts and Reading Cinemas for an exemption from the Disability Dsicrimination Act in relation to the right of people with a hearing or vision impairment to complain regarding access to the provision of captioning and audio description. The proposed reduction and minimum commitment of screenings in which they are prepared to commit to captioning and audio description is farcical and makes a complete mockery of the social advancements that have been made for people with disabilities and sensory impairments. This reeks of businesses trying to jettison costs that they feel they can get away with and they are targetting the more vulnerable members of society who already have so many of their rights compromised or removed. This should not be allowed to happen and would be a travesty of social justice. Adam D'Arcy Coordinator Mobile Attendant Care Service
