From: Daniela Mitchell [dmitchell@DeafSociety.com] Sent: Monday, 7 December 2009 9:40 AM To: disabdis Subject: Access to caption movies for Deaf community To whom it may concern, I am writing to make my argument regarding caption movies for the Deaf. I am Deaf as a result of my mother receiving Rubella during her pregnancy. I believe there should be more access to any cinema’s to have captions for the Deaf. I want the same rights as the hearing people have to be able to enjoy any time I want to see the movies as I rely on captions only. Not only have those, my 4 children who are all hearing accepted that I do not go to the movies (which is not fair on them) without captions for few reason 1. Why should I pay the full price when I don’t understand a single word? 2. Very limited time and days such as Friday, Sunday and Wednesday which is not good enough as the timing is not always suitable for me and the Deaf community. Back in 2006, I tried to get many names for the petition to get more captions for movies and DVD’s and I got up to nearly 200 Deaf communities which sadly failed. I hope to see more captions around the cinemas in the future.
