From: Pat & Jan Doran Sent: Friday, 27 November 2009 12:37 PM To: disabdis Subject: Cinema exhibitors request for exemption from Disability Discrimination Act. As a Vision Impaired avid cinema goer I am writing to protest the attitude of Village Roadshow, Greater Union,Hoyts and Reading Cinemas towards people with disabilities and our rights in society. I am making contact as a Member of Arts Acess and Blind Citizens of Australia. We of the Blind and Vision Impaired community are already at a disadvantage as we are unable to read captioning so diaglogue and discription are our only means of fully participating in the Cinema experience. We are already unable to take advantage of the many excellent foreign films which are shown due to lack of English description. Cinema is one of my real pleasures in life and the fact that the exhibitors are intent on making my enjoyment even more difficult is an absolute disgrace. I hope that the Government will refuse this request and also let the general public know the attitude of these people. Yours Faithfully, Jan Doran MENTONE Vic.
