From: Adrian.Doyle Sent: Friday, 27 November 2009 11:28 AM To: disabdis Subject: Application for exemption under DDA section 55: Cinema captioning and audio description To whom it may concern First of all I would like to say Thank you for giving me as a Deaf person to submit my in regarding to exemption under DDA section 55: Cinema captioning and audio description. I would like to object the "Big 4" applying for exemption. They are :- 1. As up to now, the only location for captioned cinema is at Jam Factory (Metro Vic) and I do end up getting frustrated that I am unable to go to Cinema at Eastland (METRO VIC) nor the nearest cinema at my location. For how long before I finally see that there is one near my place ? Would it be another 20 years ?? 2. As for the session times - I have always felt that Deaf people have limited opportunities to go to cinema like normal people. Everytime I check the times in the paper - there are few that would suit my schdule but I couldn't go due to no captions. I felt it is more of like "you can go on that time but can not do other times" 3. If exemption for the "Big 4" granted then it would go against the spirit of the Equal Access for Disability people. Why must the Big 4 apply for the exemption which "delays" the opportunity for Disabled people to enjoy their "social" lives ?? Please feel free to contact me if you have any enquiries about my objection. Adrian Doyle MELBOURNE 3000
