From: Kelly Ferguson [ Sent: Monday, 7 December 2009 1:54 PM To: disabdis Subject: Captions Dear Commisoner of Human Rights team I am vehemently AGAINST the proposed exemption by Village Roadshow, Greater Union, Hoyts and Reading Cinemas to cutback captions for a two year period. There are still a number of new release movies still not being shown in cinemas in Adelaide. At this stage, we have been fighting to have more cinemas to show captioned movies in central Adelaide and in Tea Tree Gully. Currently there is only ONE cinema Hoyts that show captioned movies at Marion Shopping Centre. Compared to Melbourne, which have three cinemas that provide captioned movies but only 3 days a week. A lot of deaf/hard of hearing people have had to travel from the northern suburbs and regional towns just to watch the movie with subtitles at Marion shopping centre. I feel that the big FOUR cinemas are falling back on their commitment to provide more captioned movies. It's a TOTAL disgrace of their attitude and behaviour toward the growing population of hard of hearing/Deaf people. the nation is supposed to move forward to deliver access services to the people with a disability -- Sincerely Kelly Ferguson
