From: Selwyn Hoffmann Sent: Thursday, 3 December 2009 2:48 PM To: disabdis Subject: MEDIA CINEMA ACCESS To Whom It May Concern, I received an important message from Art Access Victoria via It’s webpage that the four giants cinema companies requesting exemption from the Disability Discrimination Act for a period of two and half years to prevent an Australian to appeal the complain about the provision of captioning and audio description runs by the four giants companies to the Human Rights Commission. My name Selwyn and I am one of Australian Deaf community and I am share with the members of the community are frustration to able see the new release films with captioned available only on Wednesday mornings, Friday evenings and Sundays in only three or four locations in Melbourne. From today, Hoyts, Village, Greater Union and Reading Cinemas dominating Australia with 41,370 screenings per week only 0.3% of screenings will be captioned and audio described. I work, vote and pay the tax to Australia and I used some dollars from my wage to purchase the ticket to see the captioned film. If the exemption born at sunrise, I could to be a victim last for two and half Orwellian years and I should to select “English for hearing impairment” from the menu of a feature film six months after world premier of feature film. I want to go to cinema to see the captioned film for my enjoyment at first day of new release film not DVD. I am to object to Hoyts, Village, Greater Union and Reading for requesting exemption for a period of two and half years. Selwyn Hoffmann
