From: Kenfield, Sara E Sent: Wednesday, 25 November 2009 11:10 PM To: disabdis Subject: Re Captioning Exemption I would like to voice my frustration and disappointment to the recent application made by Village Roadshow, Greater Union, Hoyts and Reading Cinemas requesting exemption from the Disability Discrimination Act for a period of two and a half years. We have a deaf facility at Mount View Primary School in Glen Waverley attended by over 30 students with a hearing impairment. Our students manage face to face communications with their peers but going to the movies with them is not an option without captions because they can’t hear or follow the dialogue and it’s very frustrating. E.g. The new movie ’New Moon’ is very popular with young teenagers but the lack of captioning means that these students cannot share in the fun with their hearing peers. I urge you to rethink this exemption. Our Deaf and hearing impaired citizens need more consideration please. Sara Sara Kenfield Facility Coordinator Mount View Deaf Facility Mount View Primary School
