To: disabdis Subject: Captioning exemption I am lodging my opposition to the application made by the cinema industry in relation to an exeption from the Disability Discrimination Act in relation to captioning movies for the next two and a half years. If you accept this application you are allowing Australian cinemas to openly discriminate against a large section of the Australian population, by not allowing Deaf and hearing impaired people equal access to films. Already the number of captioned films in this country is poor, to pass this application would further decrease the number of films available with captions. I implore you to reject the application and urge cinemas to provide a higher percentage of captioned films. Regards, Catie Kidd
