From: Kyra Beth Kimpton Sent: Monday, 30 November 2009 3:42 PM To: disabdis Subject: Accessible cinemas To whom it may concern, My name is Kyra Kimpton and I am a young emerging disabled artist. I am both a performer and creator and among my passions falls film. I therefore strongly urge you not to support the proposition made by Village Roadshow, Greater Union, Hoyts and Reading Cinemas requesting exemption from the Disability Discrimination Act for a period of two and a half years. Not only will this discriminate and limit access to people such as myself, to those who seek the cinema for leisure, but it reduces my ability to access film as a person studying film and working in its creation. The limitation of access would adversely effect my education as a film artist and my position within the community. Furthermore what is the strength of a law that can be dismissed so easily? These laws are here to protect people from discrimination. What is the message that will be sent to the wider community if we exempt certain people and organisations from abiding by such laws? Once again I urge you not to approve the application made by Village Roadshow, Greater Union, Hoyts and Reading Cinemas requesting exemption from the Disability Discrimination Act for a period of two and a half years. Your sincerely Kyra Kimpton
