Subject:	Opposition of Application from Cinema Industry

I wish to oppose the Cinema Industry’s application for exemption from the 
Disability Discrimination Act in relation to captioning for the next 2 and half 
years. I am an audiologist working for Australian Hearing which is a 
Commonwealth Government Department. The majority of my clients are aged 
pensioners, many of whom have significant hearing losses, where often 
hearing aids alone are not sufficient in picking up dialogue from movies or TV. 
  Given our aging population, the need for captioning can only increase.  
I feel the above application by the Cinema Industry is both unfair and short 
sighted.
