From: Lynette Kyriakos TO WHOM IT MAY CONCERN I would like to oppose the application for exemption of the Cinema Industry from the Disability Discrimination Act in relation to captioning for the next two and a half years. The hearing impaired community is already significantly disadvantaged by the lack of captioning available at cinemas and to delay the implementation of captioning only indicates further discrimination against this group. Difficulties of the hearing impaired are well known and the technology is available to allow them equal access and equity to one of the most basic enjoyments of life – cinema. To delay the implementation knowing the difficulties the hearing impaired face and having the solution is a breach of their human rights. Lynette Kyriakos Audiologist
