Subject:	Disability Discrimination Act Exemption

Dear Sir/Madam,

I today became aware of the cinema industry's application for  
exemption from the Disability Descrimination Act in relation to  
captioning for the next 2 and a half years. I would like to express my  
deep concern with regard to this. As an audiologist, I work daily with  
hearing impaired people and have seen firsthand just how important  
captioning is for a large percentage of them. If passed, this would be  
yet another communication barrier to a large group of people already  
struggling daily to maintain their connection to the outside world. I  
feel it should remain the cinema industry's obligation to continue  
this service and politely ask that this request be taken very seriously.
