As an Audiologist I spend a lot of time with clients who are hard of hearing, encouraging them to 
make the most of their quality of life by using the resources around them to help with their hearing. 
Many of these people comment on their inability to access basic services. Cinema is one thing 
often mentioned. As the current application of big cinema players for exemption from providing 
captioning to assist those with hearing disabilities is being considered, I would ask you to consider 
the one in six ( and will in coming years become one in four) Australians with a hearing loss who 
deserve access to good quality cinema that is appropriate for their disability. To put off the supply of 
such a service for 2.5 years I do not think is acceptable.
