From: Rebekah Murthy Sent: Monday, 7 December 2009 6:49 PM To: disabdis Dear Sir/Madam I understand that the Cinema Industry has applied for an exemption from the Disability Discrimination Act in relation to captioning for the next two and a half years. Our hearing impaired population depend heavily on captioning to watch movies at the cinema, especially when there is a lot of background music which makes it difficult for them to hear the dialogue. Accepting the above requests would mean that our hearing impaired would be at a disadvantage when watching movies and it would discourage them from going to the movies. As we encourage all our hearing impaired to continue to lead as normal a life as possible, I do not think the request of the Cinema Industry promotes inclusiveness of their services to the public. I thus cannot see how their request can be supported. Kind Regards Rebekah Murthy Audiologist
