A lot of Deaf people suffer on an everyday basis because of a lot of barriers – to escape from this, a lot of Deaf people like to go to the movies and enjoy a movie with captions. The cutting down of captions will have a HUGE impact – you might not realise this but if you ask every other Deaf people, they will give you the same story. Where is our rights as a human individual should the cinemas apply and be successful with AHRC for exemption of the Disability Discrimination Act? If this is the case – then I guarantee Deaf people will not go to the movies for one, why would we pay the full price if we don’t understand a single word at the cinemas and so on. I would like to continue having human rights as an individual to enjoy everyday life therefore I ask you to put yourselves in our ‘shoes’ and reconsider the exemption of captioning. I look forward hearing from you and receive some good news soon.
