It is sad that in these times of rapid changes in technology, cinema chains should seek exemption from providing a reasonable level of access to their products for people with hearing and visual disability. I urge the relevant authorities to compel Hoyts, Greater Union, Village Cinemas, Reading Cinemas and others who have sought exemption to provide such captioning, audio description or other appropriate aid for those with a handicap. The cinema chains do themselves little credit in seeking such exemption and it is good to know that there is an organisation which can compel them to act responsibly. Laraine and Frank O’Shea
