From: Gene Reardon Sent: Monday, 7 December 2009 11:03 PM To: disabdis Subject: Cinema Temporary Exemption Hello, The fact that Hoyts Corporation, Greater Union Organisation, Village Cinemas and Reading Cinemas has applied for a Temporary Exemption under section 55 of the Disability Discrimination Act 1992 (DDA) from complaints in relation to the provision of captions and audio description in their cinemas is an appalling act of injustice and oppression of already oppressed communities. The big four can afford this, and should consider he economic implications of not enabling deaf, hearing impaired, vision impaired, full access to cinema. It is a disgraceful act of cruelty and the broader public have the right to know about this action. There will be many, many supporters of deaf , hearing and visually impaired people who wish to voice their views about this shameful neglect of citizenship and human rights.
