From: Sanders, Frances Sent: Friday, 4 December 2009 4:40 PM To: disabdis Subject: discrimination at cinemas To whom it may concern. My mother has a profound hearing loss and is a movie lover. One of the things we are able to do together is to see films – this is vital to her sense of wellbeing and to overcome the feelings of isolation she has within a world that has little tolerance to hearing impairment. In addition, I have worked in the human services and welfare sector for twenty years working towards agreed National goals to reduce discrimination. No person with a disability or impairment in today’s Australia should be prevented from enjoying equal quality of life because of their disability especially when the technology is available. Please ensure that Australian cinemas (Hoyts, Village etc) cannot have an exemption of the DDA – it will be a sad day and one which opens similar patterns of discrimination to emerge.
