I was very disappointed to hear that four major cinemas are requesting exemption from the Disability Discrimination Act for the next 2.5 years. The current provisions of captioned or audio description films for the impaired are already very limited with minimal screenings only during off-peak times for short periods, not to mention the large delays between the movie release dates and when captioned screening is actually available. There has been little to no progress in the past few years, and now they want to take away people’s right to even voice their complaints about accessibility. This is such a step backwards. With the amount of available cinemas and screenings, I can’t understand why the standards are as they are, or think of any reason for this to be requested, or approved. Regards, Courtney
