I wish to express my outrage on finding that the Cinema Industry has applied for an exemption
from the Disability Discrimination Act in relation to captioning for the next two and a half
years.

If accepted, this decision would disenfranchise a the many deaf and hard of hearing people who
enjoy attending movies. Not only the profoundly deaf but also those with moderate hearing
loss, for whom a visit to the movies is an important part of their social life. It is outrageous that
this request would be seriously considered, and clearly a financial rather than a social decision .
