National Human Rights Consultation

The Australian Human Rights Commission supports a Human Rights Act for Australia.

During the first half of 2009, an independent committee led by Fr Frank Brennan conducted the National Human Rights Consultation. For details, visit the National Consultation website at www.humanrightsconsultation.gov.au.

The report of the National Consultation was released on 8 October 2009.

The Commission welcomed the report’s key recommendations: that human rights education is of the highest priority; and that Australia adopt a federal Human Rights Act.
