About the 2025 nomination

The documentary KillJoy tells the courageous story of Kathryn Joy, a child-survivor of family violence. Kathryn's mother was murdered by their father when they were an infant. It explores the minimisation of the crime by the justice system, and then the silence during their upbringing as they were raised by their father after his short jail sentence.

KillJoy highlights the ways in which children's voices and rights are overlooked in systemic responses to family violence and seeks to give child-survivors a chance to shape their own stories.
