About the 2025 nomination

Yokai's documentary, Genocide in the Wildflower State, is filmmaking as truth telling. It portrays the trauma and resilience of survivors of the Stolen Generations in Western Australia - where over 100,000 children were systematically removed from family, culture and Country - who are still waiting for compensation.

Coming almost 30 years after the Bringing Them Home Report, it intersperses heartfelt survivor stories with clinical accounts of the administrative and legal decisions which underpinned a genocide in our own land.
