Aunty Glendra Stubbs

About the 2026 nomination

Aunty Glendra Stubbs OAM is a Wiradjuri Elder who lives in the Blue Mountains. Her ancestral lines are from the Dubbo, Wellington and Rylstone. She currently holds the position of Elder in Residence at the Jumbunna Institute for Indigenous Education and Research and Knowmore Legal Service.

Aunty Glendra is a proud Wiradjuri Elder. Aunty Glendra’s career is comprised of a multitude of state and national bodies such as The Royal Commission into Institutional Responses to Child Sexual Abuse, The National Stolen Generations Alliance and Metro Migrant Resource Centre. Aunty Glendra also held the Elder in Residence position at the National Centre for Indigenous Excellence (NCIE) in Redfern for nine years.

Aunty Glendra’s career in advocacy began at Link-Up NSW, starting as the finance person. She would eventually work her way up to CEO. Through her work as CEO, she established a range of services, addressing the impacts of forced removals- uniting many Aboriginal people with their family, lineage and culture.

She played a crucial role in lobbying the NSW Registry of Births, Deaths & Marriages to remove the barrier of payment in identifying and finding birth parents for those detached by Government enforced policies.
Over the last ten years, Aunty Glendra has worked alongside the Youth Koori Court; an alternative justice program which allows young Aboriginal children to be heard and listened to.

Aunty Glendra’s proudest achievement is being a mother and grandmother- with over 23 Grandchildren! Her proudest titles are those of Mum and Grandmother.
