About the 2026 nomination

A female disability-led organisation, Bus Stop Films is a proud champion of human rights across film and media. Founded in 2009, it has grown into Australia's leading inclusive filmmaking not-for-profit social enterprise, operating across 15 locations nationally with more than 90 staff, of which 30% live with disability. They support over 250 young adults with intellectual disability, Down syndrome or autism through its programs every week.

At the heart of Bus Stop Films is the belief that everyone has a story worth telling and the right to tell it. The organisation's work is built on the understanding that deaf, disabled and neurodivergent people belong on screen, behind the camera and at every table where decisions are made. Bus Stop Films is changing the attitudes and the industry one film at a time.

Bus Stop creates high quality films that place authentic representation at their heart, made by inclusive crews working side by side through allyship and mentoring. It advocates fairer public policy, inclusion and employment pathways across, media, film and advertising sectors.

Bus Stop Employment extends this mission into meaningful, paid work, opening up 1000s of employment opportunities for people with disability in the screen and creative industries, showcased in its debut feature film Boss Cat.

Bus Stop Films is proof that when access is built in from the start, human rights can be achieved and our world is a fairer place for all.
