About the complaint
The complainant alleged race discrimination and racial hatred in his employment at the respondent university. He alleged that he was removed from certain work allocations and overlooked for promotion because of his race. He also claimed he was subjected to racially offensive feedback and drawings within the workplace.
The respondent agreed to participate in conciliation to try and resolve the complaint.
The complaint was resolved with an agreement that the complainant be reinstated to a position he had been removed from. The respondent also agreed to provide a written apology to the complainant, make a financial donation to a not-for-profit organisation, and within 12 months of the conciliation agreement being executed, conduct mandatory anti-racism training for all its staff.
