About the complaint
The complainants 18-year-old daughter has cerebral palsy and uses a wheelchair. She attended the respondent public high school and was in her final year of school. The library and a number of the students’ classes were located on the second and third floor of the school. The complainant claimed that the school failed to provide his daughter access to the second and third floor of the school when it failed to effectively repair or replace the broken lift. The student was also unable to return to the ground floor on two occasions after the lift broke down while she was on the second and third floor.
The complaint was resolved with an agreement that the government department responsible for the operation of the school commit to the replacement of the lift.
