About the complaint

The complainant enrolled his son at the respondent primary independent school. He alleged the school withdrew its offer of enrolment when it became aware that the complainant’s son has autism spectrum disorder, saying the complainant’s son would not be able to thrive at the school.

The school denied discriminating against the complainant’s son and agreed to participate in conciliation to try to resolve the complaint.

The complaint was resolved with an agreement that the school write to the complainant apologising for his experience and pay him $2,000 as a gesture of good will.
