About the complaint
The complainant has psychosocial disability and was a member of the respondent sporting club. He said he was removed from club activities and was trying to work with the club to resolve the issue. He alleged that after he disclosed his disability, the club cancelled his membership. The complainant said he raised the issue with the parent sporting association but no appropriate action was taken.
The club said it had made changes since the alleged events, including a new code of conduct, reporting system, complaint handling processes and frameworks to assist employees to ensure that members of the club are provided non-discriminatory services.
The complaint was resolved by conciliation with an agreement that the club pay the complainant $50,000 and apologise for the events giving rise to the complaint.
