About the complaint
The complainant is transgender and attending the respondent vocational education training provider. The complainant informed the institution that they had legally changed their name and provided supporting documentation. The complainant alleged the institute’s systems, email communications and class related documents referred to them by the incorrect name.
The training provider said that due to a glitch in their computer systems, the complainant’s personal and contact information would not update and their name would revert to previous iterations of the name.
The complaint was resolved by conciliation. The training provider undertook to uncover and address the source of the glitch and to use a workaround in the interim to ensure the complainant’s personal and contact information was up-to-date. The training provider apologised to the complainant for their experience.
