About the complaint
The complainant’s seven-year-old daughter has autism and attention deficit and hyperactivity disorder and attended the respondent faith-based primary school. The complainant alleged the school restricted her daughter’s attendance, regularly asked her to collect her daughter early and was in the process of de-enrolling her daughter, citing lack of resources to properly accommodate her disability.
The school denied discriminating against the complainant or her daughter and said it had appropriately accommodated the complainant’s daughter’s disability.
The complaint was resolved by conciliation with an agreement that the school write to the complainant apologising for her experience and pay her approximately $9,250 as a refund of school fees.
