About the complaint
The complainant is Aboriginal and claimed staff at the respondent retail outlet watched him in an unwelcoming manner and treated him less courteously than other customers. He said he raised concerns about this treatment with the retailer but received no response. He alleged he was racially profiled and treated less favourably because of his skin colour and because he is Aboriginal.
The retailer apologised for not making contact with the complainant about his concerns but denied allegations of unlawful discrimination.
The complaint was resolved with an agreement that the retailer pay the complainant $4,000.
