About the complaint
The complainant has an intellectual disability. She said the respondent government department assessed her as unable to parent because of her disability and her 16 month old child was placed in out-of-home care. She alleged the department did not permit her to be accompanied by her disability support worker when having contact visits with her child.
On being notified of the complaint, the department indicated a willingness to try to resolve the complaint by conciliation.
The complaint was resolved with an agreement that the complainant’s disability support worker would be allowed to remain with her during contact visits with her child.
