About the complaint

The complainant is blind and alleged that the website of her professional association was not accessible to people using screen reading software. She said this meant she was unable to access professional development opportunities, online discussion forums, event registrations, online journals, records of continuing professional development and other benefits. The complainant claimed the professional association failed to take sufficient action when she brought the accessibility issues to its attention.

In response to the complaint, the professional association apologised to the complainant and undertook to begin a project to ensure accessibility of its website and compatibility with screen reading software.

The complaint was resolved by conciliation. The professional association undertook to consult with the complainant about which parts of the website should be prioritised for improvements and to provide her with a contact point for information and assistance until the website was updated.
