Recent activities with the Fiji Human Rights and Anti-Discrimination Commission
Sister partnership in action: Australia’s and Fiji’s national human rights institutions strengthen their partnership through co-designed activities.
The Australian Human Rights Commission (Commission) has been strengthening its partnership with the Fiji Human Rights and Anti-Discrimination Commission (FHRADC) through recent joint activities.
As sister national human rights institutions (NHRI), the Commission and FHRADC share a long-standing commitment to realising human rights in the Pacific and beyond. A key function of an NHRI is the capacity to hear and process complaints from individuals experiencing discrimination or human rights violations. Together, the Commission and FHRADC have co-designed and delivered several activities aimed at strengthening FHRADC’s governance frameworks and complaint handling processes.
In February and March 2026, FHRADC representatives visited Australia for an intensive study tour focussed on governance structures and complaint processes. In May, two members of the Commission’s Investigations and Conciliations Team delivered a complaints-handling workshop for FHRADC staff in Fiji.
These activities offered valuable opportunities to strengthen institutional responses to human rights issues. They were made possible through funding from the Australian Government Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT).
The Commission looks forward to collaborating with its sister organisation, FHRADC, to promote and protect human rights across the Pacific. We are stronger, together.
