Visit from the New Zealand Human Rights Commission

We were delighted to welcome leaders from the New Zealand Human Rights Commission to our office in Sydney recently to strengthen the trans-Tasman relationship and our shared commitment to advancing human rights in an increasingly complex world.

It was a great opportunity to discuss regional human rights leadership, anti-discrimination, Indigenous rights and self-determination, reflecting the deep connections between Māori, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
Australian Human Rights Commission President, Hugh de Kretser, said collaboration was vital to safeguarding progress on human rights and addressing shared challenges like inequality, rising division and polarisation and rapid technological change.

‘Globally, human rights and the systems that protect them are under severe pressure. It’s more important than ever for democracies like New Zealand and Australia, who share so much in common, to work together to promote and protect people’s rights in our nations and in our region.’
