Our staff in our Investigation and Conciliation Service (ICS) are committed to providing a safe, fair, and respectful service for everyone who engages with us. In return we expect that everyone who engages with us will avoid unreasonable conduct.

Unreasonable conduct

Our unreasonable conduct policy outlines many types of unreasonable conduct, including:

  • threats of harm and violence towards our staff
  • rude, aggressive or verbally abusive conduct towards our staff
  • excessive contact with our staff
  • providing excessive amounts of information
  • acting dishonestly, providing false or misleading information or unreasonably withholding relevant information
  • making unwarranted demands.

Contact restrictions

We need to ensure the safety and wellbeing of our staff and comply with our duty to make sure that our complaint handling function is performed efficiently and with the greatest possible benefit to the people of Australia.

Our unreasonable conduct policy outlines in more detail what our duty is and that we may:

  • impose contact restrictions on people who engage in unreasonable conduct
  • report threats of violence or harm to the police or other law enforcement agencies.
