> back to University sexual assault and sexual harassment project
In August 2020, the Sex Discrimination Commissioner, Kate Jenkins, wrote to all 39 Vice-Chancellors to request an update on the implementation of recommendations from Change the Course: National Report on Sexual Assault and Sexual Harassment at Australian Universities, released in August 2017.
August 2020 marked three years since Change the Course was released, where nine recommendations were made to guide universities to implement essential cultural and systemic change, for the safety and wellbeing of all students.
The recommendations covered five key action areas:
- Leadership and governance
- Changing attitudes and behaviours
- University responses to sexual assault and sexual harassment
- Monitoring and evaluation
- Residential colleges and university residences
This is the fourth update universities have provided on their progress in implementing the recommendations from the report. An initial update was provided in November 2017, a 12 month update in August 2018, and an 18 month update in February 2019.
The three-year updates from universities can be read below.
