Dear Sev

Proposed Inquiry into Disability and Employment

I write to formally express SANE Australia’s support for the proposed
Inquiry.

Employment is a crucial contributor to participation in and integration with the
community - and exclusion of the vast majority of people with a psychiatric disability
from work plays an important part in their continuing stigmatised and excluded
status. Earlier this year we sent you our new ‘SANE Blueprint Guide to Employment’
which summarises research and best practice in this area, and we hope this will
be helpful in framing the scope of the Inquiry. We also support innovative solutions
such as the Social Firm model which has proven so successful in Europe, and I
understand you have already discussed this option with Caroline Crosse of Social
Firms Australia (who is also my wife, I should acknowledge!).
