The Australian Human Rights Commission is looking to fill the position of Director, Disability Rights on an ongoing (permanent) full time basis.

As the principal advisor to the Disability Discrimination Commissioner, the Director will provide high-level strategic advice in relation to disability discrimination law and disability rights policy issues; manage and lead the Disability Rights Team; manage and lead multiple disability rights projects and collaborate with Senior Executives and other Policy teams in the development and delivery of key Commission priorities. 

This is an Executive Level 2 position with a salary range of $120,447 - $141,555 pa plus 15.4% superannuation.

The Australian Human Rights Commission is seeking a Lawyer with 4+ years post-qualification experience to join its Legal Section for up to 12 months. The position is offered on a part-time basis.

The Legal Section is a small, dynamic team that provides the services of in-house counsel to the Commission. The requirements of the role include:

  • Provide advice in relation to commercial arrangements the Commission enters into, including contracts and partnership agreements, sponsorship agreements and advising on tender processes. Assist with the drafting of these documents.
  • Provide advice to the Commission on its obligations under relevant laws including the Public Governance Performance Accountability Act 2013 (Cth), the Public Governance Performance Accountability Rules, and the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth)
     
  • Assist in the timely processing of and/or make decisions concerning Freedom of Information Act (Cth) applications.

In addition to the commercial work, the Commission would offer (subject to capacity) human rights law work including mentoring and training in this area.

The Commission is looking for a lawyer with the following skills:

  • high level drafting skills including in relation to contracts and tender documents
  • knowledge of the Commonwealth Procurement Rules and other relevant laws
  • ability to work effectively within a small team environment, with other sections of the Commission and with persons having contact with the Commission

This is an Executive Level 1 position with a salary range of $100,180-$112,013pa (full-time equivalent) plus 15.4% superannuation.
