My name is Timothy Hart the Disability Coordination Officer for Northern, Central and Southern Sydney, the Disability Coordination Officer (DCO) Programme seeks to assist people with a disability move between school, vocational education and training and higher education, to succeed in their chosen studies and move to suitable employment by providing information, co-ordination and referral services for people with a disability. The new Public Service Act was introduced in December 1999 and gives responsibility for employment decisions to Agency Heads. With changes made to the Human Rights and Equal Opportunity Act in December 1999 the President assumed Agency Head status under the Public Service Act. Employment policies have been reviewed to ensure that they conform with the new requirements under the Public Service Act. -

The Australian Human Rights Commission has decided to grant a number of temporary exemptions applied for by the Australasian Railways Association (ARA) , for a period of three years, from provisions of the Disability Standards for Accessible Public Transport. This is on the condition that members of the ARA comply with a revised set of obligations. This decision is thus about how rail services become accessible - rather than whether they become accessible. -

On 16 December 1992, the General Assembly of the United Nations appealed to Governments around the world to observe 3 December of each year as International Day of people with disability. This is a day to celebrate abilities of people with disability all over the world. The aim of observing this day each year is also to increase awareness, and understanding, of disability issues and the gains to be derived from the integration of people with disability in every aspect of life. The nomination and celebration of this day is an important tool in promoting the rights of people with a disability.
