This appendix contains the survey form that my Office compiled and sent to all Indigenous communities and organisations that had entered into a Shared Responsibility Agreement (SRA) with the federal government by 31 December 2005. By this date 108 SRAs had been finalised, and they involved 124 communities. -

A man with a mobility impairment complained that his golf club charged an extra fee for use of golf buggies, which disadvantaged him as he was unable to get around the course without one. The complaint was resolved when the club agreed to absorb golf buggy costs into general fees. (2008) -

This report contains a summary of observations by the Australian Human Rights Commissioner, Graeme Innes AM, and staff of the Australian Human Rights Commission (the Commission) following visits to Australia’s immigration detention facilities, and to people in community detention, between June and September 2008. The contents of the report are based on direct observations made during the visits, and on discussions with staff and immigration detainees. -

DDA conciliation: Goods, services and facilities
A woman who uses a wheelchair complained that when she took her 11 year old nephew to a museum as part of an interstate family holiday, he was denied access to important parts of the collection on the basis of her disability. Children under 12 were required to be accompanied by an adult; access to some of the exhibits was not feasible for the complainant because of her disability; and the respondent had declined a request to permit the boy to be accompanied by a museum staff member instead. -

2011 Immigration detention at Curtin
For more than a decade, the Australian Human Rights Commission has called for reforms to Australia’s system of mandatory and indefinite immigration detention – both in light of the impacts it has on people’s mental health and wellbeing, and because it leads to breaches of Australia’s international human rights obligations. During this time, the Commission has investigated numerous complaints from people in detention and conducted two national inquiries into the mandatory detention system.[1]
