WORKability I: Barriers noted that many employers are afraid of the 'unknowns' that may arise when employing people with disability. [1] On the one hand, this is the case with any new employee and the way to deal with the risk is to have a probationary period in an employment contract. On the other hand, several First Round Submissions suggested that a 'risk-free' opportunity to test an employment relationship with people with disability would be an incentive to employers to take on new employees with disability. -

In a modern workforce where men and women work side by side it is important that employers protect their employees from unwanted behaviour that is not only harmful to the employee involved but also unprofessional and unproductive for the workplace. Sexual harassment is one form of unwanted behaviour that attempts to exclude individuals from the workplace by focusing on the sex of the person involved. Part D of the paper focuses on how a paid maternity leave scheme would actually operate were it to be introduced in Australia.
