This timeline focuses on one particular aspect of the history of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples - the forcible removal of Indigenous children from their families. This material identifies some significant laws and practices that made removal lawful and includes writing and artwork from members of the Stolen Generations and their families which illustrate their experiences of these policies. Recommendation for refusal of temporary exemption applied for under section 55 of the Disability Discrimination Act: Victoria Department of Infrastructure
We have received by email on 18 May the attached application from Victoria's Department of Infrastructure. The application (MS Word ) seeks an exemption for a period of 18 months from the physical access requirements of the Disability Standards for Accessible Public Transport in relation to proposed trial services to operate between Daylesford and Ballan and between Mt Egerton and Ballan. -

When we look at the many issues that face Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities, it is easy to get paralysed by their complexity, entrenched nature and the sheer size of the challenge. But as an optimist, I believe that there is a lot that we can do to address these problems. There are many different tools available to suit the varying circumstances that face our diverse communities. Lateral violence is no different. -

On 9 November 2011 the Commission received an application from the Australasian Railways Association (ARA) for a temporary exemption, so as to continue in effect until 31 December 2013 the exemption which was granted by the Commission on 7 September 2010. The exemption approved on 7 September 2010 (expiring on 31 December 2011) in turn extended the effect of exemptions previously granted by the Commission in 2007. -
