University of New England College Review

Sex Discrimination

On 28 May 2019, the report of the independent review was released.

The Australian Human Rights Commission has been engaged by the University of New England (UNE) to conduct an independent review of its seven residential colleges.

Through the review process, the Commission is seeking to gain a comprehensive understanding of:

  • the culture at each UNE college, specifically in relation to attitudes towards women, sexual harassment and sexual assault;
  • the factors which contribute to the risk of sexual assault and sexual harassment in UNE residential colleges; and
  • barriers to reporting sexual assault and sexual harassment at UNE residential colleges.

As part of the Commission’s review, a survey of current college students will be conducted to measure the prevalence, nature and reporting of sexual assault and harassment within UNE’s residential colleges.

The Commission will also consult with former and current college residents, staff and other stakeholders to gain an understanding of individual experiences.
