The Australian Human Rights and Commission (the Commission) provides these comments to the United Nations Human Rights Committee (the Committee) in response to the Committee’s request for information relevant to Australia’s fifth periodic report under the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights (ICCPR).[1]

The Australian Human Rights Commission makes this submission to the Senate Legal and Constitutional Affairs Committees in their Inquiry into the Crimes Amendment (Fairness for Minors) Bill 2011 (the Bill).

The Commission commends the Government for recognising the importance of addressing the need to improve school enrolments and attendance as a critical step towards realising the right to education for all children. The Commission supports the Government’s aims to promote and protect children’s right to education.
