Notice of temporary exemption application: Airport Direct
The Human Rights and Equal Opportunity Commission has received an application from Mr D.Williams, trading as Airport Direct, for a temporary exemption under section 55 of the Disability Discrimination Act (DDA) from relevant provisions of the Disability Standards for Accessible Public Transport (DSAPT) and the DDA to permit deferral of provision of wheelchair access on a public transport service known as Airport Direct operating from Shepparton to Melbourne. Over the past year, the Human Rights Commission has enjoyed a very productive relationship with Deafness Forum and other groups, including the Australian Association of the Deaf, and Media Access Australia . We've worked on a number of projects: TV, DVD and Cinema captioning, as well as the UN Convention on the Rights of people with Disability. -

A Time to Value - Media Pack
The health and wellbeing of new mothers and babies is a fundamental argument for paid maternity leave. While income support measures may be designed to achieve a variety of outcomes, the need to ensure that women can afford to spend the first weeks of a child's life recovering from the birth and nurturing the baby requires a measure designed to provide this. The 14 weeks leave recommended by the International Labour Organization and the 16 weeks leave recommended by the World Health Organization are premised on this argument. [1] -

In examining the potential for bystander approaches to prevent and respond to workplace sexual harassment, this paper draws upon a range of theoretical and empirical research. -

It may surprise you to hear me start by saying that in many ways the research that comes from gerontology is at the forefront of age law reform. Gerontologists give us the evidence and information to advocate for age friendly laws and policies. Your work assists us to understand that while most of us develop along a similar trajectory in the early years of life, our ageing at the latter stages of life is very different, and our laws and policies should respect those differences.
